My love for the abstract and the infinite line started when my mother made coloring pages for me by simply drawing a single curvilinear line around, across, around again, creating big round spaces and small angular areas just waiting for color. The works displayed here are equally innocent and playful. In my current body of work I collaborated with God in ‘divine play’. My experiences in life have led me to a personal understanding of God different than that of most organized religions. I contend that God is a ubiquitous awareness and the core element of all matter in multiple dimensions and infinite realities. I honor God in my stories of sub-microscopic aspects of the ‘string theory’, dimensional portals and the macro expanse of the infinite universe. Color, atmosphere and depth are essential participants in these works I have created using fibers, solvents and monotype techniques resulting in intuited and calculated effects. They are enhanced with: charcoal, color pencils and both chalk and oil pastels. The work required playing and planning in equal measure.
I've recently embarked on alabaster sculpture and also the sculpting of porcelain. My love of spheres and oblong elipses translates to my alabaster work, while inspiration by the ocean is evident in my porcelain works.
My worldview was altered by a life changing experience in 1991. Subsequently, I find himself more aware of nature's minute details, seeing the world with more interest and in sharper focus. This new awareness led to sculptural creations in mixed media and found objects. I am drawn to working with overlooked items, materials forgotten, neglected and/or effected by time, the elements and circumstance, favorites being: copper, rusting metal and driftwood; binding these components together with wire, nails or staples.
I've attended several monotype workshops, including a summer 2004 workshop, in Florence, Italy all orchestrated by master artist/printmaker Ruth Weisberg.
